Meandering about the Internet (the kind of holiday I can afford), I found this excellent dissertation from Mark Steyn in defense of Andrew Bolt. Andrew ran askew of the Australian “Human Rights Commission” for the unpardonable sin of saying what was on his mind. It is becoming increasingly unsettling to realize the state is involved in handicapping the causes of special interest groups, much like you would horses in a race. Do yourself a favor and watch the following video of Mr. Steyn:
How Orwellian. I’m not a great fan of Mr. Orwell’s political view, but to use his own coinage, “doublethink”, some of his quotes are “spot on!” as the Limey’s used to say….

Take a cruise through Future Shop, Staples, Frys, or any store selling technology and you will understand the fear and re-action of Luddites against “the machines”. Times one thousand. Maybe ten thousand…. On display at any of these vendors is a cornucopia of marvels which 99.9% of the populace do not understand the internal functioning of, but, nonetheless, can operate with great facility while receiving only a modicum of training (and dexterity – lacking in oldsters like me).
There is no better defense of the Second Amendment than observing the use of this tech wizardry. They are tools (very complex tools) which can only do what they were built to do – how they are put to use by John Q. Citizen is another matter altogether.
The Internet itself is a brilliant example of great minds accomplishing magnificent technological feats for noble causes. It allows traffic of the loftiest intellectual content to be accessed as easily as depraved, morally corrupt data – user’s dollar, user’s choice! For example, You Tube is awash with examples of the sacred and the profane. Think the opening sequence of “2001- Space Odyssey”, or a TED lecture, and contrast it with the closing scene in “Eden Lake” – one of the darkest, most terrifying movies I have had the great misfortune to view….. Or the movie “Jackass”….. Every taste of every entity every time – buyer beware!
I predict the next “great step forward” will be a real time video link from a camera button, or “hat cam” – the technology is certainly here ($$$ for infrastructure is the choke). It will be Twitter Live! Streaming video-eo-eo-eo! (Did you know that “people of color” Twitter twice as much as ……….
