Once again the homage time arrived. And passed.

World War I, the “Great War”, carnage on a scale never seen before……. but not for long.
Moina Michael read “In Flanders Fields” written in 1915 by Canadian John McCrae, and made a promise with her own poem, written in 1918, titled

We Shall Keep the Faith

Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields,
Sleep sweet – to rise anew!
We caught the torch you threw
And holding high, we keep the Faith
With All who died.

We cherish, too, the poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led;
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies,
But lends a lustre to the red
Of the flower that blooms above the dead

World War II took the carnage to a new and sinister level.
Long gone is honor, chivalry, innocence.
Evil born was subdued, but not eradicated.
For the Jews, for countless innocents across the globe, atrocity.
A new pledge, never again.

Looking ahead, the clouds of chaos are gathering.
Paris this week has overshadowed the remembrance commemorations.
The president of France is making noises that sound right, but I’m not reassured.
Are you?
The president of the United States is making noises that aren’t right.
The prime minister of Canada is wet behind his ears. His words are discordant, irrelevant.
European leaders are in stasis – what to do? NATO clause 5? Bow to Sharia, to Islam, to the Caliphate?

It seems never again is wishful thinking: the unthinkable seems to be about to happen again.

A change in tactic is not a surprise.
No country, no movement, no dedicated crazies can compete with the might of Western military machinery, or the resolve of the fighting men and women.
Infiltration is the methodology in practice.
They walk among us.
Not of our culture, or mind set, or our faith.
It is the mockery of the zombie, the walking dead, the mindless hordes.
What is surprising is our inability to see what is plain to see, our inability to do what needs doing.

The great conflicts of the 20th century created the Western culture of our time, the Canada of my birth and breeding.

I say that never again will we sleep walk while the forces of evil conspire to destroy the West.
I believe that we will never forget how it happened last time, the time before, and all those times before then.
But those would just be words, just beliefs, just a meaningless pantomime of Twitters, hashtags, signs, demonstrations.

I remember. I will keep the faith. I pledge never again. But the fact remains –

Paris – C’est Domage
What a conflagration. What Joe would call a CF (cluster-f**k). Bloody catastrophic! How much more of this absolute bullshit will be endured in the name of “tolerance”, of “diversity”, of “multiculturalism”, and of the most obscene of all, “religious freedom”. Joe and I are with Mark Steyn – we’re worn out with Islam, exasperated with Muslims, and insensitive to the “moderate majority”. Here is the word from Mark Steyn. As Mark states, the barbarians are inside and there are no gates.
A quote that sets the tone for the oped –
“When the Allahu Akbar boys opened fire, Paris was talking about the climate-change conference due to start later this month, when the world’s leaders will fly in to “solve” a “problem” that doesn’t exist rather than to address the one that does. Farce o’ the Week

Joe and I are beyond amused by the incredible narcissistic short-sighted hissy fit of PC pimple squeezing that popped at Yale University this week.
We are referring to the boondoggle of authority bending to the howl of the mob.
Children are often brutally honest.
Such honesty is oft interpreted otherwise, especially in PC speak.
Perhaps the intensity of competition, the cultural and family pressures, the unpreparedness of large numbers of the attendees, are all ingredients that have created this witches brew.
I am sympathetic, and empathetic. Personally, our university days were not pleasant, productive, or successful. I wasn’t ready, prepared, or willing – and inflexible to change. In other words, immature.
No matter how intelligent these post secondary students are, no matter how “worldly”, they are for the most part, children.
Children in a culture that perpetually accelerates the “time to market” of the young.
A culture ever more complex, demanding, competitive, judgmental (despite massive effort), and rigid.
That is the nature of life.
Any “unprotected” group / society / sub-culture that ignores these facts of life is doomed.
What are the sources of malcontent? Why are campuses across the United States on fire (and every “institute of higher learning” a left majority PC positive faculty rules)?
You can read all de doo dah day incredibly articulate mostly meaningless emotionally explosive gibberish about equality, oppression, “white privilege”, the evil of us “Y” chromosome bipeds, especially the “white” type. You can find quotes about “data” and “studies” and “examples” that are far from being accurate or supported being used to build “straw man” argument to support the “cause”.
(As an aside, Joe and I hate “quotation marks”. Our defense for using them here is this: every use in the above prose is a word that has a plethora of meaning in context, but few in definition.)
Joe and I identify the problem as a natural one, unavoidable, impossible to eliminate. We know you couldn’t eliminate it were you to clone every single human being born from this time forward. Indeed, you wouldn’t want to eliminate the result of natural selection if you could.
People are born with differences. Most meaningful of these differences is intelligence. Notice no quotations? Some folks deny there is a meaningful quantitative objective test to determine intelligence.
Joe and I know when we’ve met intelligence. Not to be confused with experience or knowledge, although intelligence informs those two.
There is an article (chosen at random – there is no limit to the choices) Joe and I have selected to show how well meaning meddling results in convolutions clearly unintended, clearly harmful, clearly discriminatory. She points to the second column. “Hispanics received a bonus of 185 points.”
The last column draws gasps.
Asian Americans, Lee says, are penalized by 50 points — in other words, they had to do that much better to win admission.
“Do Asians need higher test scores? Is it harder for Asians to get into college? The answer is yes,” Lee says.
“Zenme keyi,” one mother hisses in Chinese. How can this be possible?”

Time to introduce the r / K theory survival strategy. As a metaphor, Liberals for the most part are “r” and conservatives “K”.

WEATHER (OR NOT)

This has been a week of wet, rainy, cool and cold days. The sun is at it’s most cruel – if it shows at all during the day, it is late afternoon just before sunset. Almost as if it were peeking under the cloud cover from the edge to see what is under the cloud and rain. Nobody here boss, just us sleeping dogs. The vigil begins. Only 150 more shopping days until spring…..
