Quotes o’ the Week
“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.” – Albert Camus
“You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.“ – Winston Churchill
Joe’s Comment – Q. – Can you be happy AND have enemies? Short A. – Yes. Long A. – Yes. W. Churchill and A. Camus demonstrate via these quotes the value of living your life, not overly planning out your life. The latter is the road to nowhere…..
Joe and I think the world of this man.
His keen analysis of economic issues cuts to foundation concepts.
He is a true believer in humanity flourishing if government would just quit interfering where it has no legitimate duty. Dare we say he is a Libertarian?
The following is an old interview with Peter Robinson (Uncommon Knowledge) that begins with the State of the Union Address in 1999:
Here Mr. Friedman explains his view of Libertarianism:
The difference between “consequential libertarianism” and “non-coercive libertarianism” is a distinction Mr. Friedman defines.
consequential – the smallest least intrusive government consistent with the maximum freedom of each individual to follow his own values as long as he doesn’t interfere with others doing the same.
non-coercive – it is immoral to initiate force on anyone else. (Coercion is immoral, therefore, the state is immoral).
The following starts as an endorsement of The Donald by Ann Coulter (before the grope audio tape).
However, the discussion quickly turns to Ann’s view of how America got where it is and how it needs to behave to change the (almost inevitable) future. Interesting perspective:
For the sake of posterity (and because Ann says what Joe and I have been saying) here is Ann Coulter with her analysis of the sexual hysteria surrounding Donald Trump.
As Joe says, it takes two to tango.
More eloquently put by Ms. Coulter with this quote from the article (Joe underlined the punchlines in case yer not tuned in to language) –
“Trump said: “When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do any of that. (Laughter.)” Journalists turned this into “sexual assault” by being literal on the “grab” part, non-figurative on the “you” part — and on the “they let you do it” part? Stone, cold deaf.
If “they let you do it,” it’s not an assault.
Like most of Trump’s bragging, his loutish boast was not intended to be taken seriously, nor was it. Far from whipping out his pencil and carefully taking notes, “Access Hollywood”‘s Billy Bush laughed. The gist of what Trump was saying is that — hold onto your hats! — women like to sleep with celebrities! I don’t know if you’ve heard that before.”
Joe and I are not condoning what DT has been accused of doing. Taking advantage of others weakness for personal gain is fun and games until it is done unto you. Also immoral if such a thing exists (modern philosophy has trouble with the concept).
What breaking news is this from Wikileaks via Julian Assange?
The DNC approved placing fake ads re: Trump hiring sexually willing employees.
Once again Joe says when you are wading through a swamp better be sure your boots don’t leak and your powder is dry.
What is all the hysteria about Trump?
Joe says Outlander has described the left’s fear of Mr. Trump perfectly in this oped, appropriately named “Fuck You”.
A quote from the article (one of the milder passages) –
“Ultimately this isn’t about Trump.
It’s never been about Trump.
Trump is merely the silver bullet into the heart of the sellout shitweasels.
Trump’s support is a direct result of the seething, white-hot rage in the American spirit.
He’s the final gasp of a dying body politic of red-blooded Americans, manifested in flesh.
He is a political weapon thrust into the side of Leviathan, as a last-ditch Hail Mary effort to expunge the self-anointed “know-betters” before they take the whole house down in a blazing cacophony of nuclear fire-and-brimstone.
Trump is the people’s Ambassador. His message, is nothing more profound than,
If you read the opinion piece, be sure to read the comments. This rage is real. It exists in Canada, the United States, Australia, Britain, and anywhere those who have understood freedom, or lived free, or who know what it is to be free, now live with the chains of socialism being fitted to their bodies and minds.
What it all comes down to is who is willingly or not, you are the captain of your ship. To quote Canadian pundit Kathy Shaidle, “you are not smart enough to tell me how to live”.
One last item. Remember Anita Hill?
Does anyone truly wonder why all this interest in Donald Trump’s purported sexual peccadillos has surfaced at this time? In the world of Big Time Wrestling, the Left / Democrats / Progressives are the bad guys. This is what they do if they cannot defend or support their position, whether it be political, economic, moral, or social.
The Blog of Monte Cristo has the skinny on that. A quote –
” WTF is wrong with conservatives??? We don’t deserve to win at Bingo, much less to win the contest to lead the Free World! This is truly the most spectacular display of retardedness I have ever witnessed. If we lose this election, and Hillary is replaced, eventually, by Joe Biden, the man who first legitimized the paid whore Anita Hill, the irony will be supreme. And it will not be lost on President Biden.”
Joe and I are not split on this American presidential election. We would vote Trump.
And fuck you, too.
Joe and I haven’t the funds to support Joe Dan Gorman’s work at Intellectual Froglegs.
But we can promote his point of view and enjoy his work by making it available on our rant.
Here’s the latest:
Without a sense of humor, life is much more grim (ref. Islam).
World War I
“The Great War” was a charnel house for hundreds of thousands of European and North American men.
The leaders were firmly planted in the past – defining insanity – with battle plans drawn from ancient successes that could not prevail in the face of modern technology.
Still they persisted, sending young men on both sides of the conflict to their death. So tragic, so meaningless, so immoral.
The EU council gave Britain an ultimatum to limit free speech, specifically, to prohibit the British press from reporting Muslim terrorism or terrorist acts.
The Z Man has something to say about current events in Europe in light of the history of WWI.
He has titled the oped “The Last Cards“.
A quote from the article –
“The EU, of course, is a solution to the past. More precisely, it is what the Europeans wish they had done before the Great War, believing it would have prevented all of it. Like all solutions to past mistakes, it is wildly miscast for the present. That does not bother the Eurocrats. They are convinced their way is correct and they run forward, head down, into the block wall of reality. It is precisely this sort of stuff that led a majority of Brits to vote their nation out of the project, but facts and events play no role in EU thinking.
Like the military planners during the Great War, the modern Eurocrats have no compassion for their people. They are just resources to be used for the project. The reason the press reports on Muslim terrorism, is because Europe now has a serious exploding Mohamed problem. That problem was created by the EU and its member governments, specifically the Germans. That’s of no concern to the EU. The project must continue, regardless of the body count.
I like comparing the present to the period before the Great War because the points of comparison are many, even if we live in a technological age that feels like a world away. The people in charge of the world a century ago were just as certain as today’s rulers. They clung just as hard to their modes of thought, their plans for the future and their organizational methods. They were wrong about most everything and they murdered 17 million people learning this lesson, not including what came next as a result of their errors.”
Joe and I recommend reading this article twice.
We of the “Baby Boomer” generation have eaten of the table our children and children’s children will have to clear. There is nasty conflict coming that will spell misery and suffering to large numbers of human beings.
The West is being dissolved before our eyes by the “Cloud People”. History has proven that we, the “Dirt People”, will shoulder the bulk of the debt the Cloud People incur.
There are many who will not brook this loss of freedom.
Just maybe history does not have to repeat.
Joe and I have a dislike of lawyers and lawyery reality.
Perhaps it offends our theoretical Libertarianism – if everyone was a Libertarian, there would be little requirement for laws, ergo little employment for ambulance chasers. We haven’t decided which it is. Either way, the following videos have one thing in common – both the lawyer and the cop agree that it would be wisest if you didn’t talk to a cop. Ever. Your mileage may vary:
The rest of the story:
POLITICS, POLITICIANS, WACKJOBBERY, HUMOROUS, STUPID
THE CULTURE (THERE IS ONLY ONE)
Since the advent of the cell phone the attention span of the average Joe and Joette seems shorter. Causal or correlational? No matter. One thing for sure, social intercourse is not as it was, no matter the yodels of The Talking Heads. If evolution gave humans a carte blanche pass for a self determined advancement, I would prefer to grow a third arm, to increase my handiness 50%. Joe would prefer to grow a second head, in the hope of having someone with whom to converse intelligently. Alas, most citizens are growing a dependency on the digital network as a permanent extension of their body:
PHILOSOPHY, PHILOSOPHERS, SMART THINKING
THE RELIGION OF PEACE (ALL OVER US)
Bill Warner is very knowledgeable regarding Islamic history.
The following video describes the vetting of “migrants” that would resolve the problem of conflicting culture:
The point Stefan Molyneux makes in this presentation cannot be understated.
Why aren’t Mexico and Nigeria and Russia and Iran and any number of countries flourish-ing and flourish-able like the countries of the West?
One theory is that British Colonialism brought the ideas and foundations that made Britain successful to many lands around the globe. Colonies who rebelled or gained independence from Britain and abolished the foundations of the British style of government and technology did not fare as well as those who kept them – the Western nations are proof. Some theory, eh Bambi?
Another is the idea, much more controversial, that low intelligence cultures cannot have a modern society. That would be shades of Lord of the Flies (William Golding).
Watch and learn:
WEATHER (OR NOT)
This week Vernon continued the gradual lowering of daily temperature. The furnace is a nightly occurrence, and often a few times during the day. Rain. Cloud. Wind. Frost two nights.
Joe and I really have to stop moping about Summer….
