Sunday Rant – 2518

Joe’s Comment – So far, so good.  Used to be “just under 6 feet”.  Now I’m 5’10”.  Talking to a friend who is 85 years old this year.  He is starting to look old.  I was thinking 85 is damn old.  Then I did the math.  A short sweet 16 years from now……  That’s how long I’ve been retired!

Intellectual Froglegs
Joe Dan Gorman has been mistreated by YoubeTube.
His product, Intellectual Froglegs, is viewed by the censors of YoubeTube as somehow threatening to somebody somewhere somehow for sure.
In Joe’s world, that is a badge of honor.
Joe Dan has had the same message for as long as we have tuned in to Intellectual Froglegs.  Playing guitar like ringing a bell…..
From somewhere else on the Internet, here is the Red Tsunami:

Canadian Premiers
Joe and I needed to watch this primer / review of the Premiers now in office in each of the Canadian provinces and territories.
We enjoyed very much NOT hearing the name of the previous Ontario premier.
Thank you J.J. McCullough:

The Border Child “Crisis”
Joe and I have been watching.
And screaming at the television.
What an unabashed giant stinking load in political diapers.
JBP says violence/unrest is due to differences of affluence (and the dreaded testosterone).
Third World shitholes run by dictators perpetuate evil without repercussion.
The poor and/or stupid continue to believe in magic.
The human predators grow stronger with each life they ruin.
Mother’s sending their daughters on a dangerous journey with “morning after pills” knowing damn well their child may be raped before reaching America.
Democrats frothing at the mouth.
MSM agitating for nothing short of overthrowing the laws of the land….
Of course the best decisions are made under emotional hysteria!  Who wouldn’t argue that choices elicited via duress are flawless?  Are beyond reproach?
Not Joe or me…..
Some important background information on how this situation festered into an International Outrage®.  An history at the Daily Signal outlines the sad progression of flawed legal precedent compounded by political impotence, tactless unethical compromise, with a dollop of twisted jurisprudence on top.  No cherry…..  A quote from the article:
This issue of alien children being separated from their parents who are being prosecuted for illegal entry also should be kept in perspective. Our justice system doesn’t refuse to arrest, prosecute, and jail citizens when they break the law because they happen to have children.
As Peter Kirsanow, a commissioner on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, points  out, a report from the Department of Health and Human Services shows that more than 20,000 children were placed in foster care in 2016 because of “Parent Incarceration”.
None of those protesting against the Trump administration seem concerned that 10 times more American children than the 2,000 alien children cited in the Associated Press report were separated from their parents in 2016 because of violations of the law by their parents.
As Kirsanow says, it is “regrettable” children are separated from their parents. But “people who cross the border illegally have committed a crime, and one of the consequences of being arrested and detained is, unfortunately, that their children cannot stay with them.”
It is not Trump who is responsible for this.”
The article lays out the facts.
Facts that no one seems the least bit interested in knowing.
Here is a first hand story from Mathew Lee Witt, an EMT professional who has been helping children at the border for 15 years.
His description of what is actually happening decries the breathless sky is falling screeching heard from all corners of the culture.
To lay this oozing pustular abscess at the feet of the current president is blatant political obfuscation.  Oh look!  We fucked up!
Wait a minute, the buck stops here, there, everywhere….
From DC Whispers website, some inside talk from PDT (President Donald Trump) to the Republican caucus / representatives in man-to-man face-to-face in your grill real time no foolin’ shit or get off the pot talk……
Some marching orders from The Boss –
UPDATE: “I’m following the law as it’s written. If you don’t like the law then Congress needs to change it. It’s simple. Simple. I’m with you but if you don’t like it you need to do something about it…It looks bad. Sure. Really bad. If you want to change that then change the law. DO SOMETHING. You people (Congress) have to change it. That’s how it has to be done.”
UPDATE #2: “We all know what it is. It’s fake. Fake news. CNN…it’s fake. The pictures…that was Obama’s, during his administration, not mine. You can’t let it scare you. That’s what they want. That’s why they do it. This law, you just need to change it if you don’t like it. And that’s the way it is. I’m not here to save you. I’m here to let you know I’ll support you but you have to do something. Or not. But if you don’t do something don’t come crying to me about it okay? Right?”
UPDATE #3: “Why is this coming up now? I mean, it’s so obvious am I right? Mitch knows. The economy, jobs, North Korea, there’s so much great news they had to do the fake news. I’m not saying the pictures aren’t bad. They’re bad. Certainly not good. They make it look bad. You have to do something. You have to work together. It could be such a big, beautiful thing if you did that. The Democrats won’t help. We all know that. They think this is good for them. We’ll see about that. But doing something, working together, isn’t that why you’re here? It should be. And if you don’t do that and November doesn’t work out for you then I’m sorry but you shouldn’t be here. Go do nothing somewhere else. You bring me something (a bill) that makes sense and I’ll sign it. It’s so simple. It should be. But it has to make sense. It has to be good for the American people. This isn’t rocket science folks. It really isn’t. Figure it out.”
Joe and I highlighted pertinent forceful sentiments.
This President has learned some mighty big lessons in his life leading up to his current role.  From what we read above he is another Johnny B. Goode, and is ringing his crystal clear bell.
Even the fucking ants on a milkweed plant know in order to prosper they must “husband” the aphids or perish.
To Joe and I, the “Never Trump” Republicans and the Democrats under Pelosi and Schumer would rather kill the aphids if it means the downfall of PDT.
In the case of PDT he understands the reality of what makes America great.
He also understands what makes it not great, and who is not making it great.
Unlike the store-bought politicians who surround him, he knows who makes it great too.  A hint….. it ain’t politicians.
Joe and I are bona fide “Dirt People”.
We offer anyone willing to listen a sage homily: succumbing to hysteria is cowardly.  Find some facts, do some thinking, calibrate your prejudice before you condemn any particular entity as “Adolf Hitler™”.
After all, Adolf was a progressive artist.  John F. Kennedy admired the man.
The sheer volume of the detained and separated children is a catastrophe.
To make this a political pissing contest is a moral blunder.
Joe and I think there is no solution until the Foreign Policy of the U.S. of A. is more active, more aggressive against nations with abysmal human rights records.
The “migration” is happening for a reason.
To Joe and I it is simple.  Are you on the side of good or the side of evil?

Dr. Bill Warner
Joe and I are fans of Dr. Warner.
He has been crystal clear in his perspective for over 10 years of watching his presentations.
Definitely the “Johnny B. Goode” Sunday Rant theme.
This is a brief update from Dr. Warner about hate speech vs facts and reason.
His YoubeTube channel is still up.  For how long?  Only the visionaries at YoubeTube can answer that question.
His website is the “Center for the Study of Political Islam“:

J. Philippe Rushton
Joe and I have featured Dr. Rushton presentations in this rant previously.
He and his fiance / co-worker (she is an anthropologist, he is a psychologist) work together to produce scientific data regarding race.
Big no-no topic.
This particular presentation is titled “Race Differences in Brain Size”.  We found the information very interesting.  And supportive of the evolutionary perspective.  This is a 2012 video we hadn’t seen before.
Dr. Rushton has more presentations that can be found on YoubeTube or the “Australian Realist” website or the “American Renaissance” website.
You will see the work of many prominent scientists presented at these websites.
The critics of Dr. Rushton and his cohort accuse them of racism.
Joe and I don’t see it that way.
This is real science, the science of biodiversity.
We have spent many hours watching this fascinating research and data:

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson
The following is a brief perspective from John Stossel about the profound (to some) message Dr. Peterson is broadcasting, more effectively than ever.
Q.  How can you tell when the message is true?
A.  When time passes and the message becomes more valid each time it is challenged:

In Rock & Roll paraphrasing (with apologies to Chuck Berry) Jordan Peterson keeps “talkin’ that talk like ringin’ a bell”.  Jordan B. good!:

The New Beauty
Joe and I have never watched the “Miss America” pageant.
Not that we are opposed to celebrating beauty.
Much like organized religion, we don’t resonate with the “organized” part.
Joe says big money ruined hockey, baseball, football, and _________ (name your sport of choice).  It is fine if you don’t agree.
Joe says beauty is in the eye of the beholder, same as religion is in the mind of the worshiper.  So tell us, how, exactly, will we “see” these beautiful minds being beautiful?
Time for a round song….
Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily merrily,
Life is but a dream
Now that the “Boy Scouts” accept girls (and changed their name) we suppose the next big advance will be Mensa accepting women with magnificent bodies irregardless of IQ.  It’s only fair.
Tit for tête, so to speak.
So be it.
Joe and I are more akin to Paul Joseph Watson’s attitude and viewpoint:

Charles Krauthammer (R.I.P.)
The intellectual horse power of North America has been lessened.
On the first day of summer, Dr. Krauthammer succumbed in his battle with cancer.
Joe and I have read his book “Things That Matter”, and have quoted passages in this rant from time to time.
Joe watches Fox news for several reasons.
An obvious reason is the foxes.  Stunningly beautiful (not stunned or stunted) well educated opinionated intelligent women are delightful to watch while you listen.  Joe says all things being equal (like that is even possible), he’d rather watch beautiful women deliver the news.
One thing Joe isn’t is “gender challenged”.
Another major reason we watch Fox News is the chance to hear Charles Krauthammer opine.
We always found him witty, clear-headed, deep, and fair in his political commentary, even when we disagreed with his observations.
His valuable perspective is already missed.
A great man.  R.I.P. Dr. Krauthammer:

Joe’s Garage
How It’s Made – We watch this program often enough to be totally amazed at the work tool and die makers perform for our society.
This group of skilled tradespeople make a high standard of living possible for all of us dirt people by enabling mass production.
Money people are important, and needed too.  Big factories and big ideas often take big money as midwife.
However, without the magic of how to do it, the mega-bucks mean little.
We have watched dozens and dozens of short videos about dozens and dozens of products produced in factories built and maintained by tool and die workers.
One that Joe watched with great interest is the following about ductile iron pipe.  Truly amazing:

Joe’s Comment – Katherine Hepburn delivered a telling line in the movie “On Golden Pond”.  The line read something like “getting old takes courage”.
My paradigm keeps changing.  In my prime working years I was able to put in a 14 hour day with no sweat.  Today, I was all done in 5 hours.  Kaput!
Why would your memories be so fresh when you can no longer do what you remember?
The mysteries accumulate.  Ms. Hepburn has it figured –

As usual, I miscalculated the gravity of the situation –

Amen to that!

Fond Memories
Joe and I made the mistake of looking in the mirror after showering.
Good grief!:

Dennis Miller
Joe and I are large fans of Dennis Miller.
Incredibly sharp witted, balanced, well spoken.
And funny (if you can keep up with his fast-paced delivery).
He has been out of the public eye recently.
Here is a commentary from Dennis Miller on the Stuart Varney show about Robert De Niro’s melt down expletive riddled banshee wail regarding The Donald.  As usual, Dennis is concise and surgical while delivering his message in a swarm of cultural and social reference.  Try and keep up!:

Scott Adams
Joe and I are aficionados of cartooning, of cartoons.
We made a presentation at one time about the “Four Levels of Cartooning”.  We will publish it some future time in this rant.
Scott Adams is the cartoonist / originator of the cartoon strip “Dilbert”.
Mr. Adams has a unique perspective on life.
His analysis of various political topics and subjects is thought provoking.
You may balk at his homey presentation style, but take a listen to his analysis of two current events – one, Robert De Niro’s shameful outburst as dismissed by President Trump, and, two, the intelligence behind the meeting with the NORK madman Kim Jong-un.
Mr. Adams has been insisting since before Donald Trump was elected that “The Donald” is a master of persuasion.
His argument has merit:

Prager U
Dr. Jordan Peterson is teaming up with other powerful entities.
Joe and I are grinning!
This is the second (that we know) for Prager University:

Joe’s Comment – It was a year ago on June 8th that us BC residents went to the polls and committed NDP sepuka.  For the 4th time.
It was also that same day the RCMP came a knockin’ on my door later that night and took me to jail for some remarks I uddered (moo!) uttered at the poling station.
Two things to say about that and that……
One, I can’t guarantee my big fat mouth won’t get me the same treatment (or worse) in the future.
Two, thanks again (and again, and again) to the many friends and neighbors for the fine character reference letters  you wrote to offset the impression the court might have, based on the claims of the accuser(s).
As it turned out, the charges were dismissed by the court with a caveat.
All is well.
That was an old photo.
I’m different now…..Let’s hear it for metamorphosis!

D Day (6 June 1944)
Joe and I were born 5 years after D Day.
How must it have been for thousands of young men who established a beach head along the coast of Normandy, heavily fortified with defensive structures and armament by the German occupiers?
There were more than 4,000 allied soldiers killed on the first day, June 6th.
The Americans stormed Utah and Omaha.  The British Sword and Gold.  The Canadians Juno.
This is the beginning of the end for the German war machine.
From this time, June 6th 1944, until 2:41a.m. May 7th 1945, when an unconditional surrender was signed, the German forces fought a loosing battle against determined allied forces.
Why were Joe and I born 5 years after D Day?
Because April 29th 1945, the American 3rd Army, 14th Armored Division liberated Stalag VIIa, freeing my future father.
General George Patton arrived at Stalag VIIa the next day. A quote about his visit from this article:
As he walked briskly through the camp General Patton occasionally stopped and exchanged a few brief words with small groups of American prisoners. When he came upon my group the General paused, looked at us, shook his head in disgust at the sight of the thin, unkempt scarecrows standing before him and said in a low voice, “I’m going to kill these sons of bitches for this.”
That is the voice of justice.
A few reels of D Day film that haven’t been widely viewed:

Tell Me Again, Oh Wise One
Chief Rainbow Socks persists (with the aide of his cohort) in pedaling the CO2 fantasy – that by “controlling” CO2 emissions with taxes, humanity can affect climate.
Joe says don’t be so hard on our fearless Mr. Dress(up).  Logically and technically, every single exhalation of breath adds to the CO2 total.  It only makes sense that to stop breathing decreases CO2 by one breath.  Just logic.  The FACT that the amount of CO2 exhaled is insignificant seems to be an elephant in the room of logical discussion. The tax on the other hand, has a complex psychology under-girding it’s legality, not the least of which is guilt.
Tell me again, oh wise one, why taxing CO2 is going to change anything?
The answer, grasshopper, is it makes the payer less wealthy (more vulnerable).
A poor citizenry is powerless.
Add CO2 to the list of conundrums this line of reasoning has produced.
The claim is “controlling” CO2 can “control” (or moderate, or influence) the climate.
Joe says never mind that, what about forest fires?
How effective are humans at stopping forest fires?
Joe says what about flooding?
Tell me again, oh government experts, how we “control” flooding?
What about an asteroid shower or planetary object striking the earth?
What about a huge (YUGE!) solar flare?
The see-saw sound of crickets is deafening.
Holy Hollywood, Batman!
Joe says check out Hawaii…..
People in authority and people with no authority are pissing their pants as the active volcano in a small corner of the official Pacific Paradise® burps mildly and sets thousands running for solace.
So what are we saying?

Joe and I are saying the following:
We love that humanity reaches for the stars.  There is no limit imposed or recognized by us.  The human spirit, human imagination; they are powerful forces in this universe.
However…..  humanity is but a flea on a very large animal, said animal a mote in infinite space.
Take a spoonful of humility, humanity.  One step at a time.  How about letting science and technology establish the truth before you pirouette and add another tax to an overtaxed citizenry when there is no legitimate proof that the taxation will accomplish it’s objective.  In other words, separate politics from science.  And keep government the hell out of business.
Not only are politicians literally unaccountable for their poor choices and unintended consequence(s), their fantasy ideological excursions continue to punish the least able and least advantaged in our society – the poor and/or stupid.
The harridan lesbian harpy “leading” the Ontario government is a prime example.  We already have the law of the land that used to be based on English Common Law, whereby each citizen (the individual is the smallest minority) has all of the rights.  Each time the political class passes a law which identifies a group (other than the citizen) they weaken liberty, free speech, and justice.
Your opinion may differ.

Light in the Darkness?
Joe and I were delighted at the election results from Ontario.  Doug Ford is now the Premier of Ontario.  A picture of him and his wife, Karla –

We were disgusted with some of the media reporting (referring to the new premier as “the brother of the crack cocaine user”).
Who says Canada’s media are fair and unbiased?  Time for a complete review of the so-called 4th Estate.  By 4th Estate we mean not just the press, but the bureaucracy, the education system, the “Deep State”, the “shadow government”.
Joe and I watched the political career of Rob Ford (RIP).  His tragic personal life was NOT his political manifestation.  On balance he did more good than not.
His brother Doug is different, but with similar roots.
We see a correlation to business acumen.  Politics may be kissing babies and worshiping ideology, but running a country is an economic quagmire.
We wish Premier Ford the best in correcting the havoc implemented via the extreme leftist agenda of the small “L” liberals under K. Wynne, manifested as unbearable energy costs, ridiculous carbon tax commitments, government intrusion in family life, and corrupting the education of Ontarian children.
A list of five platform items he would be wise to implement upon assuming office listed here.
There is a Ford in Ontario’s future.

The Death of NAFTA
Joe and I are old enough to remember the implementation of NAFTA.
For Joe and I and most Canadians, the net effect has been beneficial.
For others not so much.
For the Chinese, a literal gold mine.
Our fearless leader, Chief Rainbow Socks, and his side-kick, Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeman are pleading the case against tariffs in the USA.
To “sundance”, writing for The Conservative Tree House, NAFTA is all but dead.
Although Canada’s Mr. Dress(up) feels jilted, he does confess that Canada’s membership in NAFTA has opened the door for the Chinaman to take advantage of a loop-hole in the NAFTA agreement allowing foreign transshipment of items (such as steel) through Canada into the US market.  The article linked above has details.  Joe and I found the interview by Stuart Varney with Larry Kudlow informative:

Update:  We saw the Trump speech at the G7.  We also heard the snarky remarks from our feckless leader.
After the big guy in the room left.
Joe says it reminds him of an H.L. Menkin quote referring to democracy.
Joe’s modifications noted below:

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president Prime Minister represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House 24 Sussex Drive will be adorned by a downright moron.”

The Onion (as metaphor)
One of the oldest metaphors has to do with the number of skins on an onion – each layer you peel off leads to another layer below.
As with solving problems or understanding complex systems, processes, or ideas, understanding is limited by personal capacity.  Consider the following cartoon –

Joe and I agree with the young fellow.  In our computer workshops of yesteryear, we used a variant of this problem to make a legitimate point.  Here’s how we phrased it:
Q.  Which of the following expressions is correct?
1 + 1 = 2
1 + 1 = 10
A.  As written, both are correct (under certain conditions) but incomplete.

Consider 1 + 1 = 2  This answer is correct in every base greater than 2 (base 2 is binary – only two states involved (0 and 1)).  We assume base 10 (digits 0 to 9) because most of our common measures are expressed in this form.
However, in base 2, there are only two numbers (0 and 1).  Therefore, in base 2,     1 + 1 = 10 is correct.
The original question is not complete enough to answer with certainty.
The question should be written as follows:
110 + 110 = 210
The second question should be written as follows:
12 + 12 = 102
Written this way, both are correct.

In passed weeks, the Sunday Sermon portion of this rant concerned itself with Dr. Jordan B. Peterson’s psychological analysis of the bible stories in the First Testament.  As with the onion layer metaphor, the bible stories can be understood at any number of levels; as a naif child might comprehend, or the most learned scholar analyze.
Joe and I learned from watching Dr. Peterson’s lectures that dismissing such an ancient and complex literary compilation as insignificant is at our peril.  The Bible was written by many; studied, edited, and argued for centuries by scholars and learned theologians and lay persons.  To ignore the Bible because you don’t believe in a white bearded man in the clouds is to not “skin the onion” until meaning is perceived.  The stories are as complex as you can understand, as old as people, and as valid today as in ancient times.  Don’t believe us, take a gander at Bible story art or Bible inspired art.  Here’s a link to Bible story art.
We are partial to this three panel painting by Hieronymus Bosch titled “Garden of Earthly Delights“, painted over 500 years ago (≅1515 AD) –

Here are a few details from these panels –

If this doesn’t make you think, or spur your interest, so be it.
We are gobsmacked.

World Population
Joe and I have used Hans Rosling TED talks in our former workshop presentations.  One of his most informative is the “Magic Washing Machine” talk.  Here it is from 2010:

Mr. Rosling has not been sitting idle.  There are many more videos available via the miracle known as the Internet.  We found the following presentation about world population and thought it very informative as well.  Here is Hans Rosling and “Religions and Babies” from 2012:

Joe and I believe the basic tenants of this presentation.  We have iterated them for years.  The path forward is cheap energy, educating women, and personal freedom.

Joe’s Garage
This is a film about the V8 Ford.
Henry Ford had built V8 motors for the Lincoln line, but they were conventional: the engine was cast in several pieces.
The competition by Chevrolet inspired Henry to design a V8 engine cast in one piece – an accomplishment many engineers swore was impossible.
This film combines mechanical and engineering detail with the social conditions of the time.  1932, the first year of the flathead V8, was still depression time economically in the US of A.  The promotional gimmicks and stunts to sell cars are part of this film’s charm.
